ACNE CLEAR UP
As some of you may know, I use to complain about my skin every now and then. & as you may also know, I finally found something that works and helped clear up about 80-90% of my breakouts.
Before showing you a before and after & then reviewing the cream, I wanna talk a bit about the type of spots I had and how they progressively got worse. (If you don’t wanna hear this part then just skip to the pic and read the bit after lol)
After researching for ages, I found out my breakouts were closed comedones. (Comedones are the skin-coloured, small bumps (papules) frequently found on the forehead and chin of those with acne. A single lesion is a comedo. Open comedones are blackheads; black because of surface pigment (melanin), rather than dirt. Closed comedones are whiteheads; the follicle is completely blocked.)
So in other words, under the skin spots that have been blocked/clogged with dead skin. The problem with these, or at least with mine specifically is that you cannot pop them & the skincare products I was using for acne/blemish-prone skin really weren’t doing anything. It has nothing do with properly washing your face or removing make up, my skin care ranged from extensive products to keeping it simple but either way I ALWAYS do a double or triple cleanse to make sure there’s NO make up left over on my skin.
I started getting these under the skin bumps last year, but I didn’t pay much attention to them as there were only a few and I just thought they would pass. This year is when they got soooo bad, my brother & family members would keep telling me to go doctors and find a solution but in all honesty, I am the biggest procrastinator ever and I just CBA to go doctors. I’m allergic to DUAC gel which is a famous acne treatment prescribed from doctors and I didn’t want to go on accutane as I don’t even take regular medicine let alone going on something as strong as accutane. I looked online for an alternative product to duac gel that I could purchase over the counter. I came across a product called Acnecide which as 5.5% benozyl peroxide (the active ingredient used to fight acne)
The before and after have a week in between! Imagine!!! Only a week. I was soooo sceptical about posting the before as I know some people may find it gross but reality is adult acne is more common than you think & it affects women more than men. It also has NOTHING to do with cleanliness as I already stated, it can be hormonal, something not reacting well with you (food you consume or ingredients in products), stress.. The list goes on & on.
Anyway.. On to the fun stuff now. So the cream is to be used twice a day, morning and evening. However, I’ve only been using it before bed every night. In the first week I noticed extreme dry skin, especially around my mouth.. My skin felt very tight and it kept flaking off. The rest of my skin felt ok but it just felt a bit tight and sort of itchy. I also noticed very mild soreness when touching my skin. For example, if I were to itch my face or if I tried to pop a spot, my skin would hurt. You’re suppose to use SPF when using this cream when stepping outside but being the rebel that I am (lol) of course I haven’t used SPF. I use 100% pure argan oil straight from Morocco (The one I use is by Ameera London, I will link everything below) – I would use this in the morning after rinsing the Acnecide off of my face, I would gently tap it all over my skin, let it absorb and sometimes apply it again. Other days where I felt extra dry, I would add a couple of drops of the oil into my face cream. I use the cream now without any excessive dryness, I just apply my moisturiser or oil and it feels and looks fine.
So to sum it up, the side affects I experienced that you should look out for/be wary of:
- dry skin
- itchy skin
- sore-ish skin
- the benozyl peroxide WILL bleach your pillow cases & face towels (I didn’t mind this, but maybe just use old ones you don’t care about
However, overall none of these side affects were extreme for me at all and were all very bearable and worth having the clear skin. I forgot what it was like to have nice skin & especially when wearing make up, it looks flawless now! Of course I will still get the time of the month hormonal spots but that’s completely normal so yeah, overall.. No complaints. I’m super happy!
